USA-Deterioration in household morale in April – Michigan – 04/12/2024 at 4:03 p.m.


The morale of American households has deteriorated since the beginning of April, while inflation expectations have started to rise again, the first results of the monthly survey from the University of Michigan showed on Friday.

Its confidence index stood at 77.9 while economists polled by Reuters anticipated 79.0 after 79.4 in March.

The component of consumers’ judgment of their current situation rose to 79.3 compared to 82.5 the previous month and that of outlook to 77.0 after 77.4 in March. For these two subindexes, the consensus was 82.2 and 77.6, respectively.

One-year inflation expectations stood at 3.1% compared to 2.9% in March, while those over a five-year horizon stood at 3.0%, compared to 2.8% in March.
