USA: Drop in jobless claims to 231,000


WASHINGTON, June 30 (Reuters) – U.S. jobless claims fell to 231,000 in the week to June 25 from a revised 233,000 the previous week, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

Economists expected an average of 228,000 initial jobless claims. Registrations for the week to June 18 have been revised up from an initial estimate of 229,000.

The moving average over four weeks, however, goes back to 231,750 against 224,500 (revised) the previous week.

The number of people receiving benefits regularly fell to 1.328 million in the week to June 18 (the last for which these figures are available) against 1.331 million the previous week. The Refinitiv consensus had it at 1.310 million.
