USA: Empire State index plunges in August


(CercleFinance.com) – Manufacturing activity in the New York region deteriorated very sharply in August, according to the ‘Empire State’ index which plunged 42 points to stand at -31.3 this month, and while economists were certainly expecting it to be in decline, but still in positive territory.

The New York Fed says new orders and shipments plunged, unfilled orders fell and labor market indicators pointed to a slight increase in employment, but a drop in the average workweek. .
