USA: Fertilization doctor used own sperm

At 36, Kelli Rowland had fun doing a DNA test. The result is a shock for the whole family: the doctor who performed the artificial insemination on her mother is her biological father.

Kelli Rowlette was born through artificial insemination in the early eighties. She didn't know that for a long time, but now it came to light. Because recently the American thought: Why not send DNA to Ancestry.com and see what happens? The 36-year-old didn't want to believe what happened at first.

Fertilized in two ways

According to a DNA test, her biological father is a now retired doctor named Gerard E. Mortimer. And lo and behold! Rowlette owes him her life in two senses: Mortimer is the doctor who treated her parents at the time, performed artificial insemination and delivered her mother.

Rowlette's parents had apparently long tried unsuccessfully to have a child together naturally before they confided in the fertilization specialist Gerard Mortimer. He found an unfortunate combination in the couple: a low sperm count in Rowlette's future father and a backward-sloping uterus in her mother. Hence the artificial insemination.

While telling the couple that he was using a mixture of the man's sperm and an anonymous donor who met the two's requirements to be similar to the man, he was in truth using his own sperm. Et voilĂ : nine months later, little Kelli was born.

Signature on birth certificate

Wacky: When Rowlette found out the name of her biological father after the DNA test, her parents initially stonewalled and kept silent about the story. However, Rowlette discovered the truth by chance when she got her birth certificate again: It was signed by Gerard Mortimer.

However, there is now ongoing proceedings against him for fraud and breach of medical due diligence. Who knows what will come of it. Maybe the medic has other descendants who don't know anything about it. And Kelli Rowlette a couple of half-siblings!
