USA: Former Deputy Treasury Secretary Raskin appointed to Fed Board of Governors

WASHINGTON, Jan 14 (Reuters) – President Joe Biden named former Deputy Treasury Secretary Sarah Bloom Raskin as Federal Reserve Vice Chairman for Banking Supervision, and economists Lisa Cook and Philip Jefferson, on the institution’s Board of Governors, the White House announced on Friday.

These appointments, if confirmed by the Senate, will complement the ranks of the Fed’s seven-member board of governors that wields considerable influence over the US economy.

Sarah Bloom Raskin, 60, was a member of the Fed’s board of governors from 2010 to 2014 and deputy treasury secretary from 2014 to 2017 under President Obama.

She would succeed Randal Quarles, who left the post when his term expired last October. (Report Kanishka Singh and Chris Gallagher, French version Laetitia Volga and Jean-Stéphane Brosse, edited by Blandine Hénault)
