WASHINGTON, April 1 (Reuters) – Growth in U.S. manufacturing activity suffered an unexpected slowdown in March, the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) monthly survey showed on Friday, as prices paid by manufacturers continued to increase.
The ISM manufacturing index fell to 57.1 after 58.6 in February, the lowest since September 2020, while the Reuters consensus gave it up to 59.0.
The new orders sub-index fell to 53.8 from 61.7 a month earlier, its lowest level since May 2020, and that of prices continued to rise, to 87.1 from 75.6.
The ISM survey also confirms the dynamism of industrial employment, with an index up to 56.3 from 52.9.
