PARIS, March 25 (Reuters) – The morale of American households has deteriorated a little more than expected since the beginning of March, the final results of the monthly survey from the University of Michigan showed on Friday.
Its confidence index finally came out at 59.4, the lowest since August 2011. This level is lower than the consensus (59.7) and the first estimate which was also 59.7. In February, the index had reached 62.8.
The component of the judgment of households questioned on the current situation fell in March more than initially announced, to 67.2. This is the lowest level since August 2009. In the first estimate, it was 67.8 in March, against 68.2 in February.
That of the outlook fell this month to 54.3, a low since October 2011, against an initial estimate of 54.4 and a figure of 59.4 in February.
On Wall Street, the S&P-500 index, which was up around 0.1%, was little changed after the publication of this indicator. (Written by Claude Chendjou, edited by Jean-Michel Bélot)
