USA: Increase in jobless claims to 213,000


WASHINGTON, Sept 22 (Reuters) – U.S. jobless claims rose slightly in the week to September 17 to 213,000 from a revised 208,000 the previous week, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

Economists expected an average of 218,000 jobless claims. Registrations for the week to September 10 have been revised down from an initial estimate of 213,000.

The four-week moving average stands at 216,750 against 222,750 (revised) the previous week.

The number of people regularly receiving benefits also fell, to 1.379 million in the week to September 10 (the last for which these figures are available) against 1.401 million the previous week. (Report Lucia Mutikani, French version Marc Angrand)
