Aug 4 (Reuters) – U.S. jobless claims rose in the week to July 30 to 260,000 from a revised 254,000 the previous week, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

Economists expected an average of 259,000 jobless claims.

Registrations for the week to July 23 have been revised down from an initial estimate of 256,000.

The four-week moving average stands at 254.750 against 248.750 (revised) the previous week.

The number of people regularly receiving benefits rose to 1.416 million during the week of July 23 (last week for which these figures are available) against 1.368 million (revised) the previous week.
