Producer prices (PPI) in the United States increased at a slower rate than expected year-over-year in March, show statistics released Thursday by the Labor Department.
The latter announced that the PPI index had increased last month by 2.1% on an annual basis after a gain of 1.6% in February. Over one month, prices increased by 0.2%, after an increase of 0.6% the previous month.
Economists polled by Reuters on average forecast an increase of 0.3% monthly and 2.2% annually.
The producer price index excluding energy, food and commercial services increased by 0.2% over one month after a gain of 0.4% in February and 2.8% over one year, like the previous month.
