USA: Rise in jobless claims, to 219,000


Oct 6 (Reuters) – U.S. jobless claims rose to 219,000 last week from a revised 190,000 the previous week, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

Economists expected an average of 203,000 jobless claims during the week to October 1.

Registrations for the week to September 24 have been revised down from an initial estimate of 193,000.

The four-week moving average stands at 206,500 against 206,250 (revised) the previous week.

The number of people regularly receiving benefits rose to 1.361 million during the week to September 24 (last week for which these figures are available) against 1.346 million the previous week. (Written by Claude Chendjou, edited by Sophie Louet)
