USA: rise in weekly jobless claims


(CercleFinance.com) – Just like the previous week, weekly jobless claims increased during the week of August 1 in the United States, settling at 262,000, against 248,000 (revised figure) the week previous year, according to Department of Labor figures.

The four-week moving average – which can be considered a better indicator of the underlying trend in the labor market – is also up, at 252,000 against 247,500 (revised figure) a week earlier.

Finally, the number of people regularly receiving benefits rose to 1,428,000 during the week of July 25 according to the most recent figures available, which represents an increase of 8,000 compared to the revised figure for the previous week.
