USA: slight drop in weekly jobless claims


(CercleFinance.com) – Weekly jobless claims fell the week of June 13 in the United States, settling at 229,000, against 231,000 (revised figure) the previous week, according to figures from the Labor Department.

The four-week moving average – which can be considered a better indicator of the underlying trend in the labor market – came out slightly higher, at 223,500 against 219,000 (revised figure) a week earlier.

Finally, the number of people regularly receiving benefits amounted to 1,315,000 during the week of June 6 (i.e. the last week for which these figures are available), up by 5,000 compared to the revised figure for the week former.
