USA: Stability in unemployment claims at 217,000


March 7 (Reuters) – Unemployment claims remained stable in the United States during the week ending March 2, at 217,000, the same figure as the previous week, the Labor Department announced on Thursday.

Economists expected an average of 215,000 unemployment registrations.

Registrations for the week to February 24 were revised up from an initial estimate of 215,000.

The four-week moving average stands at 212,250 compared to 213,000 (revised) the previous week.

The number of people regularly receiving compensation rose to 1.906 million in the week ending February 24 (last week for which these figures are available) compared to 1.898 million (revised) the previous week.
