PARIS, June 9 (Reuters) – Jobless claims rose more than expected in the United States last week to 229,000 from a revised 202,000 the previous week, the Labor Department said on Thursday.

Economists expected an average of 210,000 jobless claims for the week to June 4.

Registrations for the week to May 28 have been revised up from an initial estimate of 200,000.

The four-week moving average stands at 215,000 against 207,000 (revised) the previous week.

The number of people regularly receiving benefits rose to 1.306 million during the week to May 28 (the last week for which these figures are available), the same level as the previous week. (Written by Claude Chendjou, edited by Sophie Louet)
