USA: The ISM manufacturing index at its lowest since May 2020


WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. manufacturing activity grew in September at its weakest pace in nearly two-and-a-half years and the new orders index contracted amid rising interest rates. interest which undoubtedly weighed on demand, shows the monthly survey of the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) published on Monday.

Growth in the ISM manufacturing index slowed to 50.9 last month, the lowest since May 2020, from 52.8 in August.

Economists polled by Reuters on average expected a figure of 52.8, the 50 mark separating growth and contraction in activity.

The new orders sub-index dipped to 47.1 in September, also the lowest since May 2020, after 51.3 in August, and the employment index fell to 48.7 from 54.2.

The prices paid component stood at 51.7 in September, the lowest since June 2020, after 52.5 the previous month.
