USA: The private sector created fewer jobs than expected in August (ADP)

WASHINGTON, Aug 30 (Reuters) – The U.S. private sector added fewer jobs than expected in August, the latest indication that the job market is weakening, though still tight, shows on Wednesday the monthly survey by the ADP firm.

It lists 177,000 job creations in August, while economists polled by Reuters predicted an average of 195,000.

ADP has revised upwards the results of the July survey which now show 371,000 jobs created while the initial results showed 324,000.

The labor market is gradually slowing as it adjusts to the U.S. Federal Reserve’s interest rate hike since March 2022.

On Wall Street, equity index futures reacted little to the publication of this statistic and signaled an opening at equilibrium. (Report Lucia Mutikani; French version Kate Entringer, edited by Blandine Hénault)
