WASHINGTON, Jan 20 (Reuters) – The U.S. Treasury is prepared to impose significant sanctions on Russia if it invades Ukraine and is in contact with allies to define the nature and scope of those sanctions, a said Joe Biden’s Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen on Thursday.
“The president said we would impose serious consequences on Russia if they invaded Ukraine,” she told CNBC television.
“We hope that Russia will try to find a diplomatic solution, but we are ready to impose serious consequences.”
She explained that Washington was cooperating with its European allies, which have closer economic ties with Russia, to address their concerns.
