WASHINGTON, Jan.6 (Reuters) – Unemployment claims rose in the United States during the week to Jan.1, to 207,000 from 200,000 (revised) the previous week, the Labor Department said Thursday.

Economists expected an average of 197,000 jobless claims.

Registrations for the week to December 25, 2021 have been revised up from an initial estimate of 198,000.

The four-week moving average stands at 204,500 compared to 199,750 (revised) the week before.

The number of people receiving regular benefits amounted to 1.754 million during the week to December 25 (last week for which these figures are available) against 1.718 million the previous week. (Report Lucia Mutikani; French version Claude Chendjou, edited by Sophie Louet)
