Since March 2020, entry into the USA has only been possible in exceptional cases. Now the travel restrictions could be overturned.
The US is said to be on the verge of lifting travel restrictions for EU and UK citizens. This was reported by several US media, but official confirmation is still pending. the “POLITICO” daily newspaper cites EU officials as anonymous sources. Accordingly, the restrictions for vaccinated people from the Schengen area and the United Kingdom are about to end. An official statement from the US government is expected on Monday. The ban is due to fall in November.
The entry ban for Europeans came into force at the beginning of the corona pandemic on March 13, 2020 under US President Donald Trump (75) and was extended on January 25, 2021 by his successor Joe Biden (78).
These people have not yet been allowed to enter
The entry ban affects people who have stayed in Germany or another country in the Schengen area 14 days before their planned trip to the United States. Even those who have been to Great Britain, Ireland, Brazil or South Africa in the last two weeks are not allowed to go to the USA.
There were exceptions for US citizens and their close relatives, holders of “green cards”, diplomats or employees of international organizations.
The EU has been fighting against the restrictions, which are perceived as unfair, for a long time. After all, many European countries, including Germany, have lifted entry restrictions on US citizens, including for tourist purposes.
