Uschi Glas has written a book about her life and love. In GALA she reveals how her husband Dieter dispelled her doubts about the relationship.

It’s hard to believe that the woman is celebrating her 80th birthday, looking so youthful and radiant Uschi Glas, 80, in conversation with GALA. If you really want to see her shine, you only need to talk about her husband: Dieter Hermann, 73, entrepreneur, passionate golfer – and the actress’s great love. She goes walking with him in the morning and the two of them cook together in the evening. The couple also share an unusual passion: They like to have little competitions to see who can disassemble and repair technical devices faster.

Their love almost didn’t work out

Dieter Hermann is the lucky ticket that Uschi Glas almost didn’t draw: When she heard that he was a few years younger, she actually wanted to end the budding love. “I thought: Okay, that’s it, he’ll just be a good friend. I told him to find someone younger,” she tells GALA and laughs. He didn’t do that. Instead, the couple married. And Uschi Glas has a completely new experience in this marriage, her second. “I used to think that it was fascinating when you were different. Today I see that there is something wonderful and not boring at all when you harmonize.”

From fateful affairs to great love

Less harmoniousHer first marriage to the film producer Bernd Tewaag, 76, ended. She had arranged herself well in this relationship, writes Uschi Glas. She ignored warnings from friends that there might be another woman – until Tewaag’s affair finally became public. A difficult time followed: “It probably took me a year to get over it – a year of mourning, so to speak,” she tells GALA. “At some point I realized that it was over. Without any feelings of revenge, just over it.” There was something good about the whole thing: without the separation, she would never have met Dieter, says Uschi Glas. So: “Thank you, fate!”
