Use in Tyrol – cow attack: 44 students and teachers were taken from the mountain

A group of 44 students and teachers from the USA will probably not soon forget this excursion in Tyrol. In the Kalkkögel area, hikers were apparently attacked by cows on Sunday. After fleeing to a mountain peak and darkness setting in, they lost their orientation, whereupon the teachers made an emergency call.

The 40 students between the ages of eight and 18 and the four teachers set off on the tour quite late. Around 4 p.m., the American group took the funicular in the Axamer Lizum to the so-called “Hoadl” in order to hike from there over the Widdersberg to the “Halsl”. In the ‘Halsl’ area, the group was suddenly attacked by several cows, whereupon the students and teachers fled up the mountain in the direction of the Nockspitze,” the police reported. Neither students nor teachers dared to go any further. Due to the oncoming darkness, the teachers could no longer orientate themselves. They didn’t know what else to do and made an emergency call. Hypothermic but unharmed back to their accommodation. The alarmed mountain rescuers then climbed up to the American group and took them to the nearby Birgitzalm. From there, the students and teachers were brought back to their accommodation by the fire brigade and the alpine police. Everyone involved was unharmed but slightly hypothermic.
