Uzbekistan: election victory for Mirsiyoyev – view

The election control in the capital Tashkent declared the vote in the authoritarian-led ex-Soviet republic to be valid around noon on Sunday. At 12 noon local time (9 a.m. CEST), the minimum voter turnout of 33 percent had been reached, it said.

Observers expect a huge victory for the 64-year-old incumbent Mirsiyoyev. After the death of dictator Islam Karimov in 2016, he opened the country bordering Afghanistan significantly to the outside world.
