SAMARCANDA, Uzbekistan (Reuters) – Uzbekistan signed contracts worth $16 billion (15.98 billion euros) with China and $4.6 billion with Russia on the sidelines of the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), in Samarkand, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

The agreements with Beijing include the construction of a China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway line, while the projects with Moscow concern the sectors of machinery manufacturing, chemicals, petrochemicals and geology, said ministry spokesman Yusuf Kabuljanov.

Russia and China are major investors in Uzbekistan and the main trading partners of the former Soviet republic.
