Vacation on Mallorca: Airlines operate 532 flights to and from Germany

The “Mallorca Zeitung” reported on Friday, citing information from Aena for the period from March 26th to April 5th. That is 51 percent fewer flights than during the Easter holidays of the last pre-pandemic year 2019. Last year, the corona pandemic was already in full swing at Easter and had paralyzed tourism.

Significantly fewer Mallorca flights over Easter than in 2019

The corona numbers on the holiday island in the Mediterranean, which is popular with Germans, are currently relatively low with a seven-day incidence of around 30. The federal government removed the Germans’ favorite island from the list of corona risk areas on March 14. This also lifted the Federal Foreign Office’s travel warning. The move was made because the number of new infections there had fallen below 50 per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days. This also eliminates the quarantine and, initially, the obligation to test when returning to Germany.

When bookings rose sharply, the federal government issued an urgent warning against vacation trips to the Mediterranean island. In addition, compulsory testing from Tuesday was ordered for all those arriving from abroad. This also applies to travelers who do not come from a risk area, including those returning from Mallorca. This compulsory test should initially apply up to and including May 12th.

Mallorca: From Tuesday negative test on entry mandatory

All flight passengers who come to Germany from Mallorca or other regions from next Tuesday must have a negative corona test before take-off. The beginning will be postponed a bit to give more time for preparation, said Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) on Friday in Berlin.

First of all, the general test obligation decided by the federal and state governments should come into force on Sunday night, and now on Monday night. “Those who do not have a negative test will not be taken,” said Spahn. This is a precautionary measure to prevent the virus from spreading through vacation trips and also protects the passengers in the machines.

With the somewhat later start, the airlines should be given longer time to organize test offers abroad, where they do not yet exist, said Health Minister Spahn.
