Is it possible to take an Easter and summer vacation in 2021? Many Germans are concerned with this question. Travel experts explain why you should book now.

Is it possible to take an Easter or summer vacation in 2021? This question is currently of concern to politicians and citizens in Germany. While Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (45) considers travel during the Easter holidays to be excluded, others are positive. For example, Daniel Günther (47), Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein, "has hope that Easter holidays can take place in the country this year," he said in an interview with RTL.

Mark Tantz, managing director of "DER Touristik Deutschland", is optimistic about the Easter holidays. At the request of the news agency spot on news, he explains: "We are firmly assuming that many destinations will be reopened for the Easter holidays. Germany and Austria in particular, but also Greece, Turkey and the Balearic Islands could then be possible again." Countries like Greece and Turkey would prepare for the holiday season with sophisticated restart concepts. "Due to the mutant spread, Tyrol is also taking a number of additional measures," says Tantz.

Trips abroad are possible at Easter

People with wanderlust who want to travel abroad at Easter have a good chance: "Anyone who is willing to accept certain restrictions in the respective country of travel will most likely be able to travel at Easter as well. After all, there is no travel ban," says Carlo Speth, editor-in-chief with "holiday pirates". For vacation within Germany, however, he sees black.

This uncertain situation is also reflected in the bookings: "We are currently seeing lower demand for the Easter holidays than last year," notes Jonas Upmann, Head of Consumer Communication at "HomeToGo". Nevertheless, a trend is emerging: Almost 76 percent of the searches for the Easter holidays in 2021 would be for travel destinations within Germany. "That is an increase of 47 percent compared to the previous year."

According to Susanne Müller, managing director of "Fränkisches Weinland Tourismus GmbH", some bookings for the Easter holidays have already been received in the Franconian wine region. If you want to go on holiday at Easter, you should look around early enough: "At the moment the prices are in the basement and if there is even the slightest bit of positive news here, it works like the stock market: prices explode," warns Carlo Speth.

Summer vacation 2021: booking is now the order of the day!

If many people are still reluctant to spend the Easter holidays, bookings for summer holidays are picking up speed. According to Country Manager Gabriela Mendoza of "weg.de", user inquiries are currently "mainly focused on the months from the end of June to the end of October". Those who arrive early are also rewarded: "Travelers who book now have the advantage of being able to fall back on cheap early bird offers." In 2021, luxury accommodation in the 5-star range will be particularly in demand.

As in the Easter holidays, the focus in summer is on travel destinations within Germany. That is why capacities are again scarce this year, says Carlo Speth. "Hotels by the sea, in the mountains or overall in the more rural region will in all likelihood be in great demand again." Expert tip: be flexible and have a plan B. "I can only strongly recommend that you think about it now and be open to booking." Due to the flexible cancellation conditions of many travel providers, "there is currently nothing against booking your summer vacation now," says Vinzenz Greger, Managing Director of "HolidayCheck".

Unknown spots instead of tourist hotspots

In particular, "if you want to spend your vacation in the very popular and highly sought-after Baltic and North Sea regions, you should book soon," recommends Mark Tantz. Another option would be to pursue lesser-known goals. Last year, many regions in Germany complained about the influx of tourists. "While there was a lot of activity on Bavarian lakes and traffic jams formed on the access roads, there was plenty of space in places on the Brandenburg lakes," says editor-in-chief Speth.

Those who, on the other hand, have planned package tours to Spain, Greece or Turkey should wait for last-minute offers, advises Daniel Krahn, CEO of the travel portal "Urlaubguru". "One can expect that the tour operators will offer offers with attractive prices." Those who have booked earlier should also keep an eye on last-minute offers: "If cheaper last-minute tariffs are offered in the end, you can simply cancel free of charge and make a new booking," advises Speth.
