Because of the Corona crisis, young families in particular are increasingly booking holidays on the farm. Not only children get their money’s worth here.

If you are looking for a safe travel destination during your vacation, it is best to just stay in Germany. Aside from the large hotels with many rooms, long queues at breakfast buffets and crowds at the reception, there are attractive alternatives. Farms in Germany, for example, are enjoying increasing popularity.

There are currently almost 10,000 farm domiciles in Germany. Whether adventure farm with active agriculture or pony farm – fun, nature and variety for young and old are guaranteed. A varied program with riding lessons, alpaca hikes or animal feeding ensures that there is no boredom. And you don’t have to do without luxury either.

Modern comfort in old walls in Chiemgau

The Staller Ferienhof is located in the Chiemgau near Seeon. The 5-star apartments also offer large families plenty of space and superior comfort – with a swimming pond, sauna, whirlpool and loggia. Six apartments in the listed Bundwerkstadel, all with typical architecture and furnishings, make your vacation something special. Children can feed alpacas or go on a guided hike with them, drive sheep and goats to pasture or ride horses and ponies. If you want, you can take the farm quiz and acquire your own stable diploma. The hosts, Dorothea and Thomas Schroll, offer fresh pizzas from the farm’s own oven or barbecues around the open campfire every week for interested families.

Riding holidays on the farm

Horse lovers in particular get their money’s worth when they go on holiday to a farm or riding stables. Whether classic riding lessons with school horses or special courses, for example lessons in vaulting, western riding or show jumping or dressage riding make the heart of every horse fan beat faster. Many businesses have a riding arena or a riding hall and riding trails for guided rides start from the farm. The Augustinerhof in Schwangau im Allgäu is located between fields with a view of Neuschwanstein Castle. In addition to guided rides, the horse-drawn sleigh rides are particularly popular in winter.

Sleep in the hay bed

A special experience that should not be missing on a farm holiday is spending the night in the hay. It’s not just the children who are happy. Whether for a longer stay or just a few nights, this overnight alternative is definitely a change. The hay hotel in the Schwarzfelder Hof, for example, is reminiscent of a mattress dormitory in a hut. But instead of the mattresses, there is loose hay here. Guests sleep in their own sleeping bag with a blanket underneath. However, due to the corona requirements, the hay hotel is currently not allowed to open. Alternatively, the farm also has comfortable holiday apartments and a campsite. Own quarry ponds invite you to swim, fish or go boating.
