Vaccine pass: Christophe Castaner denounces a “political recovery” after a new episode in Parliament

PARLIAMENT – Invited this Friday on LCI, Christophe Castaner, boss of the LaREM deputies in the Assembly, explained himself on the vaccination pass, the vote of which was delayed Thursday evening in Parliament.

Christophe Castaner recognizes this himself: “The adoption of the vaccine pass is complicated.” Invited this Friday on LCI, the boss of the LaREM deputies returned to the hiccup observed the day before in Parliament: a tweet from LR Bruno Retailleau indeed derailed the close agreement between deputies and senators on this text which unleashes passions.

“It is only an indicator of the fact that the senators wanted an agreement at all costs”, estimated the former Minister of the Interior. “They spent 4 hours advancing, then retreating, so much so that they totally lost us. The only thing we understood was that he wanted an agreement, because Valérie Pécresse had asked Bruno Retailleau for it.

rage of the majority

While the Senate had voted overnight on a significantly modified version of the text, deputies and senators had met at the start of the afternoon at the Palais Bourbon. Objective: to try to agree on a common version of the text in a joint committee (CMP). After four hours of meeting, punctuated by several suspensions and confabulations, the elected representatives of the two chambers seemed on the point of topping.

This is the moment chosen by the boss of the senators LR Bruno Retailleau, who was at a distance, to tweet that this joint commission had “proven in the Senate” dominated by the right, in a “victory of common sense”. “The pass is intended to protect the French and nothing else… no offense to Emmanuel Macron”, he added. Fury of the majority, which recorded the failure of this CMP.

“A rather grotesque afternoon”

Christophe Castaner denounced on LCI a political recovery. “Bruno Retailleau was not there. He wants to be the first to draw to say: ‘I won.’ Basically, there was no agreement. At 6 p.m., there was a suspension of sessions.“And the MP adds: “It was a pretty grotesque afternoon, all remotely controlled by Retailleau who had only one obsession: to say that he had won.”

And now ? “We will resume at the start of this Friday afternoon, we hope for an adoption at the end of the day”, said Christophe Castaner. The text must shuttle between the Assembly and the Senate, before adoption at the start of the week. The text should come into force the week of January 17. “Tuesday or Wednesday, if there is no referral to the Constitutional Council”, added Christophe Castaner. A referral already considered by the opposition.
