Vaccine pass: despite Pécresse’s call to vote for, LR deputies in dispersed order

PARLIAMENT – While Valérie Pécresse and their group president had called on them to show responsibility, only a third of LR deputies voted in favor of the bill establishing the vaccination pass.

The majority’s new argument for attacking Valérie Pécresse is all found. “I don’t know how it will be if she becomes president, but this is clearly the bitch.”, attacked the leader of the deputies LaREM Christophe Castaner this Thursday. “That night Valérie Pécresse was let go by her supporters in the National Assembly. How can she still claim to lead France in the crisis when her own camp is not following her?”, also tweeted the deputy LaREM Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade.

The reason ? In recent days the candidate LR had repeated that the deputies of her camp “do not oppose” to the bill establishing the vaccination pass. But in the National Assembly this Thursday morning, 28 voted for when 24 voted against and 22 abstained. The group has 103 members.

Yet in the camp of the president of the Ile-de-France region, we want to highlight the fact that two thirds of the group did not speak out against. “I am delighted that our group has followed our line of responsibility since this evening, two thirds of our group did not oppose the text and the draft law on the vaccine pass”LR group boss Damien Abad told LCP after the poll, adding: “We were promised a divided group and in fact we have a united group.”.

“We were hot, it could have been a disaster”

However, an LR deputy close to Valérie Pécresse acknowledged this Thursday morning with LCI: “It didn’t come into play, we were hot, it could have been a disaster. With a few voices, we went from the camp of the reasonable to that of the irresponsible divided”. He also admits that the stake was not to discredit the presidential candidate. “We were recommended to abstain rather than vote against so as not to weaken our candidate.” A call obviously little heard.

On Monday, Damien Abad assured that his group would not oppose the bill: “We don’t want to fall into either conspiracy theses or anti-ax theses, we leave that to extremes”. Group speaker Ian Boucard told him that “the temptation is great to transform the vote” in a referendum on the management of the crisis by the executive. Faced with the sharp rise in the epidemic, LR deputies will choose to “the responsibility”, he had promised. But already from the start of the study of the text the instructions had not been followed. Thirty-two LR deputies out of the 36 present in the hemicycle on Monday had voted in favor of the amendments to delete the key article 1 of the bill.

What had rained down the first criticisms of the majority towards a Valérie Pécresse unable to be listened to, and had pushed the latter to reaffirm her position: “The right is a big family with many positions. That of the LR group is known, we are a governing party, we are going to govern France in a few months, we will not oppose this text.”

What position will senators take?

This division of LR deputies suggests that it will continue in the same way in the Senate, which will study the text from next week. Will the predominantly Republican upper house of parliament pass the bill? She should at least add some modifications; LR parliamentarians particularly wish to demand a time limit on the vaccination pass.
