From adolescence to her reign as Miss France, Vaimalama Chaves was often the victim of grossophobia. Criticized for her weight by her former classmates, then by internet users and even by another beauty queen who judges her “chubby ”, the sublime Tahitian has learned to deal with it and regain self-confidence. Today, Vaimalama Chaves feels good about himself. In love and thin, she has notably lost weight by playing sports with her companion Nicolas Fleury. Guest on Evelyne Thomas's show on Non Stop People, Wednesday February 24, 2021, Vaimalama Chaves has agreed to return to his relationship to his image. If she assumes her figure with pride, the 26-year-old model confides having lived a very difficult period between college and high school. At the time, she weighed up to 84 kilos and was teased "quite hard ” from other adolescents.
“I was going to lock myself in the library "
“Those days were not easy, that's clear, but that's also what made my character ", explains Vaimalama Chaves in front of the camera. While she has learned to respond over the years, as she has often proven on TV shows and social media, that wasn't necessarily the case when she was younger. “I was going to lock myself in the library, I didn't answer. It didn't interest me ", she recalls, when the host asks her how she reacted to criticism. For Vaimalama Chaves, the transition to high school was not easy. This is when she really starts to put on the pounds: "I had a bicycle accident with a rupture of the cruciate ligament and hospitalization where I could not move. There, we see the body changing and we don't like it ”, says Miss France 2019 in front of Evelyne Thomas.
Once recovered, the young woman decides to take charge of herself “to tend towards what [he] pleases more ”. “I started to lose weight because I liked putting on clothes that were trendy, and being able to put on clothes without feeling uncomfortable, just accepting my body as it was. ”, finally concludes Vaimalama Chaves, with a smile.
