Val-de-Marne: trial for assassination ordered against the killer of Mattéo, 17 years old

The teenager had been stabbed in May 2021 in Champigny-sur-Marne by a 16-year-old boy.

A murder trial was ordered by an investigating judge at the Créteil court against a teenager, prosecuted for having fatally stabbed in May 2021 Mattéo, 17, in Champigny-sur-Marne (Val-de-Marne), learned Monday, August 29, AFP from a source familiar with the matter.

The author’s lawyer, 16 years old at the time of the events and living in the same residence as Mattéo, appealed the order of the investigating judge, who decided in July to refer him to the court of assizes of minors for assassination, according to the same source close to the file. This appeal, which suspends the decision of the investigating magistrate, will be debated by the investigating chamber in the coming weeks. In June, the Créteil prosecutor’s office also requested a trial for murder.

Dispute between two young people

On May 18, 2021, Mattéo was fatally stabbed at the foot of one of the 29 buildings of his residence at Clos des Perroquets, in Champigny-sur-Marne. The drama took place between two blocks of buildings, where the victim and a small group of neighbors used to play ball or smoke a shisha.

Investigators found a deep wound nearly 11 centimeters near the victim’s heart. The track of a dispute between two people was very quickly privileged, dismissing that of a conflict between gangs of young people. Contacted Monday by AFP, the defense lawyer and the civil party did not respond immediately.

In the same department of Val-de-Marne, a 17-year-old girl, Marjorie, had also been fatally stabbed in Ivry-sur-Seine a few days earlier. The author was sentenced last June to 8 years in prison for murder.
