Valais doctors’ plea – continue to wear a mask: that’s what the SRF community says – news

The quick return to “normality” gives the Valais medical society something to think about. They advocate continuing to apply knowledge gained from the corona pandemic. For example, wearing a mask when you have cold symptoms. This demand has led to heated discussions in the SRF community.

Mostly for wearing a mask

In a non-representative survey by SRF, the majority of users stated that they could imagine wearing a mask from time to time when they had a cold. For example, user Patricia Mutaleno says: “Even today I don’t always do without the mask.” Because although she considers it important to keep your distance, in her eyes not many people stick to it.

Even today I don’t always do without the mask.

Katharina Bleuer doesn’t want to do without the mask entirely either: “For my part, I still wear the mask in strategic places.” As a self-employed person who only earns money when she works, she is happy to now know an efficient method to more or less avoid infectious diseases. Masks are also part of Korina Graf’s everyday work: “As a nurse, I was already doing this before Corona. If you work in a sensitive area, that’s already a given.” However, she does not think that this will prevail for the general public.

Community opposition

This is also how some SRF users see it. You can’t imagine wearing a mask any longer. Above all, Bernhard Haeuser has had enough of the discussions: “Mask, no mask, oh, I don’t want to hear that anymore.”

Mask, no mask, oh, I don’t want to hear that anymore.

Filippo Falke is also still somewhat critical of the mask question: “Well, I still look at people with masks ‘strangely’ and will never get used to it…” For user Francis Weber, for example, other measures would have proven to be more useful. However, he also adds: “Who wants, should, who doesn’t want to, leave it alone.”

Recommendation instead of obligation

These shades of gray also run through the discussions. In particular, the community does not agree on an obligation or recommendation. Philipp Notter is positive about a recommendation that flu patients wear a mask in the waiting room – information and tips are welcome, but he doesn’t want to know anything about regulations.

A recommendation that flu patients should wear a mask in the doctor’s waiting room makes sense.

Dimitri Hauri shares this opinion: “As long as it doesn’t become mandatory and everyone is free to wear a mask when they want, I have nothing against it.” User Andy Gasser, on the other hand, advocates a limited mask requirement: “A local and temporary mask requirement, e.g. during the flu season in health and care facilities, objectively speaking, there is nothing to be said against it.”

According to family doctor and President Monique Lehki Hagen, it is also the case Valais Medical Society to protect medical practices, retirement homes and hospitals, because “the mask can be very effective if used correctly”.
