PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–The manufacturer of seamless tubes Vallourec announced on Wednesday that it has partially restarted the exploitation of the iron mine located in Pau Branco in Brazil following an agreement from the mining authorities for a period of three months.
Mining resumes without using the tailings pond, which had slipped into a water reservoir following exceptional rains in the State of Minas Gerais at the start of the year.
“Under this temporary regime, enabled by the possibility of using alternative storage areas, the objective is to gradually move from 70% to full production,” Vallourec said in a press release.
“Vallourec is preparing in parallel the return to normal operation, which will be subject to validation by the mining and environmental authorities of the stability of the tailings park,” added the group.
