Initially only available on PC, through Steam, vampire survivors was then ported to several platforms, in particular due to a major and unforeseen success by poncle, its only developer at the start of the project, who, moreover, cannot explain such enthusiasm. Naturally, as soon as a game brings together many players, it is not uncommon to see copies being created on other platforms, especially on mobile. That’s what prompted ponce to work on a portage.
But we could have seen it land sooner (it finally arrived in early December 2022), given that work on the mobile version began shortly after the success of vampire survivorswhose first record figures were established at the beginning of 2022. But poncle had a very precise idea of its carry, not wishing to set up a game where microtransactions were legion, at the limit of pay-to-win or ads at all costs.
Soon after the initial success of Vampire Survivors, I started looking for a business partner to work on a mobile version of the game. Unfortunately, no one I spoke to agreed with the monetization I had in mind. head for the platform: non-predatory.
This had the consequence of managing the portage autonomously, without a partner, forced by the emergence of ” real copies » taking over all the assets of VS. This choice put pressure on the team, even as the arrival of vampire survivors on mobile wasn’t a primary focus initially.
The developer finally managed to offer us a free phone version and ads only for players who want to get some bonuses, without being intrusive, which many games should adopt…
