After her acclaimed cloud-free comeback, pop star Vanessa Mai reveals what made her return to Schlager music.

With her album “Hotel Tropicana”, which was released at the end of March, singer Vanessa Mai (31) returned as Cloud Free – ten years after the release of the debut single “Jeans, T-Shirt and Freedom”. In an interview with “Welt am Sonntag”, the successful singer also went into the reasons behind her return to the Schlager sound. Mai revealed: “The fans have wanted this cloud-free sound for a long time and I also noticed that I wanted to do it.” Since the 31-year-old “always did” what she wanted, she wanted to “give the fans what they want.”

Vanessa Mai: “Never had no desire for Schlager anymore”

When the first pre-single “The world belongs to us” was released in February of this year, the successful singer, who has enjoyed success as a solo artist in recent years, explained that the band had “always had a place in my heart”. But trying out other musical styles – Mai recorded the single “Happy End” with rapper Sido (42) around 2021 – was important for the artist.

“I was never tired of hits. I just had to break new ground with Vanessa Mai to be able to do what made me so happy back then with all my heart,” revealed Mai in a statement at the beginning of the year.
