Everything new at Vanessa Mai? The singer, who is celebrating her 30th birthday, has made a change – from hit to pop artist.
Vanessa Mai (30) recently announced her new album “Metamorphose” for August 12 – and she couldn’t have chosen a more appropriate title. Because in the past few months, the singer has undergone a major musical change. She said goodbye to Schlager for the time being.
Beginnings as a pop singer
Vanessa Mai has already achieved a lot in her 30 years of life – and she wants to go further. The singer started her musical career in 2012 in the pop band Wolkenfrei and then went solo: in 2014 her debut album “Endlos Liebes” was released, which made it into the top 20 of the German charts. With her following albums she remained true to the hit, but kept her finger on the pulse of the times and became more and more modern musically.
An album by Vanessa Mai has been released almost every year since 2014 – there are a total of seven studio albums – and they all made it into the top ten of the charts: “Wachgeküsst” (2015), “Für Dich” (2016), “Regenbogen” ( 2017), “Schlager” (2018), “Forever” (2020) and “Mai Tai” (2021).
Since 2021, however, the singer has gradually said goodbye to the hit. In July 2018 and October 2020 she had already cooperated with “Wir 2 immer 1” and “Mitternacht” with the rappers Olexesh (34) and Fourty (26) – at that time Schlager met rap.
Breaking new ground: collaborations with artists from other musical genres
She has continued to develop her passion for collaborating with other artists. The first single from her new album “Metamorphose” was released in October 2021: With Sido (41) she released the song “Happy End” and thus turned her back on the hit – for the time being. Since then she has boldly continued down this new path.
“As if you love me” followed in November 2021 with pop singer Mike Singer (22). It is probably not the last collaboration between the two artists: “I am sure that other great things will happen together with Vanessa and I,” promised Singer in an interview with spot on news. It then continued to be rap-heavy: In February and April, Vanessa Mai released the two singles “Melatonin” and “Schwarze Herzen” with the rappers ART (26) and CIVO (24).
Marriage to Andreas Ferber: “It’s perfect for us not to separate work and private life”
Privately, Vanessa Mai is still happy with her husband Andreas Ferber, who is also her manager. The two got married in 2017 and regularly post cute couple photos on Instagram. This year they celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary.
The fact that their professional and private lives overlap is not a problem for the two of them: “We don’t separate it. We have a lifelong dream and it’s great to be able to work on it together. It couldn’t be better for us. Everyone feels it differently . But for us it’s perfect not to separate work and private life,” Mai explained in an interview with spot on news in March 2021.
Vanessa Mai is looking forward to “the next chapter”
On May 2nd Vanessa Mai celebrates her 30th birthday. A few weeks earlier, she told spot on news that she didn’t yet know how she was going to spend the day. “There are a few ideas, but we’ll wait and see what we really pull through with them. Because, as the saying goes: First, it turns out differently and second, than you think.”
She doesn’t quarrel with her age: “Every age is special and I lived my 20s pretty well and had a lot of fun,” she said. “Now I’m so excited for the next chapter. I’m quite comfortable with it, to be honest.”
