An unusual incident occurred in the Vatican on Thursday evening. A car crashed through a gate of the small state at high speed. The incident ended with no injuries despite a shot being fired.
A man in his car sped through the eastern Sant’Anna entrance gate into Vatican City. Both control gates of the Pontifical Swiss Guard and the Vatican State Gendarmerie Corps were overcome, the Holy See announced. Previously, the car was turned away by the Swiss Guard, with a maneuver it returned and finally raced into the Vatican.
A shot should have stopped the car
One of the Vatican forces fired a shot to stop the drive. The car was hit on the left front fender, but the man continued driving. In the central courtyard of the Apostolic Palace, the driver finally got out without being asked and was arrested by the emergency services.
According to the information, the driver is an approximately 40-year-old man who has been found to have “psychophysical changes”. The driver is now being held in the Vatican gendarmerie barracks.
