Vegan cream: The winners at ÖKO-TEST

Vegan cream is available in different variations. In contrast to cream made from cow’s milk, the vegan alternative is often made from soy, oats, rice, lentils or coconut. Because of this, the products also have a different taste of their own.

For example, while soy cream is relatively neutral, oat cream has a stronger flavor of its own. Depending on your taste, you either like it or you use the oat cream in rather well-seasoned meals, so that the taste of the cream is less important. Alternatively, you can use soy cream. Here, the experts recommend trying out what you like best.

Better than cream from cow’s milk

The fact that inexpensive representatives are also among the winners shows that good vegan alternatives no longer have to be expensive. A price comparison from previous years also shows that vegan products are not as badly affected by inflation as animal products. While butter and co. have risen steadily in price over the past month, only one manufacturer of vegan cream has increased its prices significantly compared to the previous year. On the other hand, the other manufacturers have not gone up so much with their prices.

With seven suppliers, the price increase for vegan cream is 0 percent. “I really don’t see any good reason anymore not to try the vegan alternatives that are ‘very good’ in our test instead of the climate-damaging cream,” says ÖKO-TEST editor Meike Rix.
