That’s a funny idea SSD that can be “burned” like in the good old days of “CD-R”, not even “RW”.

To be completely honest, this is news we weren’t expecting. Indeed, Verbatim has just launched an SSD called Write Once, which implies that data can only be copied to it once.

Up to 540 MB/s read

In 2022, this return to a situation that we had not known since the heyday of CD burners is surprising. For the moment, it is difficult to say if Verbatim will find its audience with this SWOVA128G.

As its name suggests, it is a 128 GB capacity SSD. The model is external, and as it connects in USB-C 3.2 Gen 1, it must be able to reach speeds of 540 MB / s in reading. For writing, Verbatim suggests a maximum of 180 MB/s.

Writing requires Windows 10 or Windows 11 running on an x86/x64 CPU and running Microsoft’s .NET Framework 4.8. Reading can be done on many more systems: we are talking about macOS, ChromeOS, iOS, Android and Windows 8.1, 10 and 11, provided that exFAT is supported.

Verbatim does not mention Linux systems (an oversight?) and insists on the 10-year guarantee. However, this warranty does not cover the data itself, just the hardware. We also wish good luck to this material, as it seems out of step with its time.

No price has been mentioned by Verbatim which, for the time being, only seems to want to release the SWOVA128G in Japan.
