On Christmas Eve, burglars destroyed the house of Verona Pooth and her family. Four months later, the wounds have not healed.
On December 24, 2021, several burglars destroyed the house in Meerbusch where Verona Pooth, 53, and her husband Franjo, 52, live with their son Rocco, 10. Her eldest son, San Diego Pooth, 18, currently resides in the United States. “They came into the house and cut everything short and small,” the 53-year-old described the events. Among other things, the stairs, the dressing room, the bathroom and the furniture were broken. And it’s not just about the material damage, but also about “the fact that they really hurt us deep in our souls. […] I have a bit of a kind of nightmare, because of course you’re terrified that you’ll come back again,” the mother of two admitted to “Bild” after the burglary. Four months later, Rocco in particular was still struggling with the situation .

“Little Rocco still talks about the robbery a lot. Of course, at the age of ten he hasn’t quite gotten over it yet. You always notice when there’s a crack at home or a noise can be heard in the garden that he immediately follows up calls me and says, ‘Mom, I think there’s someone there …'” says Verona Pooth now in an interview with “Bild”.
But the advertising icon itself is still suffering from the consequences: “The emotional loss cannot be put into words. You are just totally stunned and sad that all of your jewelry has been stolen. You often imagine where it is is.” Particularly painful: Among the stolen valuables was the jewelry of Verona Pooth’s mother Luisa, who died in 2015.
The insurance covers the damage
The investigation into the burglary is ongoing. After all, the insurance company pays for the entire damage. “But I’m grateful that my insurance company keeps its word and has really helped me a lot with everything so far – but there are still some amounts outstanding.” A small consolation after the terrible events.
