Veronica Ferres: Culture industry is neglected by politics

Veronica Ferres criticizes politicians for their dealings with the cultural industry during the corona pandemic.

The cultural industry is one of the most suffering from the Corona crisis and many cultural workers are increasingly feeling completely abandoned by politics. Actress Veronica Ferres (55, "Under German Beds") also criticized the way culture was handled in an interview with RTL and made serious accusations against politics. It would help big companies faster.

Different rules are incomprehensible

"Unfortunately, the cinema industry does not have the lobby like the aircraft industry," said Ferres. The cinema operators would have absolute security. With ventilation systems, the air in a cinema hall is cleaner than in any office building. Nevertheless, stricter rules would apply there than in an airplane, in that the passengers would sit close together.

"I don't understand why politics makes such differences. And the culture industry is an industry with sales in the millions and billions. Neglecting them in this way is simply a very, very big mistake," said the 55-year-old. A lot has to be done to ensure that culture does not die, Ferres continues.

This country is doing better

In these matters, Germany could learn a lot from a neighbor: "In Austria there is a completely different corona collection system than we have here in Germany. Completely different dimensions, completely different, much faster acting measures," said Ferres. In Germany, however, there has only been discussion for six months and nothing has happened so far.
