Iconic actor Daniel Radcliffe, known for his starring role in all eight Harry Potter films from 2001 to 2011, has expressed his support for the new Harry Potter TV series planned for Max, while providing details that may disappoint many fans. Even if it was a bit to be expected, especially since it is a complete reboot of the saga.
A necessary break with the original Harry Potter films
Daniel Radcliffe will not participate in the series. Radcliffe believes it would be wise for the TV series to break away from the original films in order to create its own identity. During an interview with E! Online, he said: “I don’t think it would be a good idea to have a cameo from me on the show. They very wisely want to make a fresh start. I am very happy to watch this as a spectator.”
The actor also clarified that he was not approached by Max to participate in the series and that he prefers not to speculate on hypotheses regarding his involvement. Radcliffe expressed similar sentiments in an interview with ComicBook last year. He then stressed the importance of allowing the new series to chart its own path without depending on the actors from the original films. “I’m sure those who work on the series will want to leave their own mark and not have to integrate an older Harry into the story,” he explained. “I’m absolutely not looking to participate in any way, but I obviously wish them every success and I’m looking forward to seeing the next generation.“
The television series planned for 2026
David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, announced earlier this year that the Harry Potter television series was planned for 2026. This series, which will be broadcast on Max, is supposed to span seven seasons, each adapting one of the books of the famous series by JK Rowling. Zaslav expressed his enthusiasm for this project, highlighting the team’s excitement at relaunching the franchise and sharing a decade of new stories with fans around the world.
As of yet, no casting has been announced for the series. Producers are likely looking for new talent to play the beloved characters.
