Start of filming and a new vet for season nine

“Veterinarian Dr. Mertens” will return to screens with new episodes in 2025. Filming for season nine has begun.
“Veterinarian Dr. Mertens” with new veterinarian
Filming has now begun for the sequel to “Veterinarian Dr. Mertens,” as the first channel announced in a press release on June 3. In the new episodes, Susanne Mertens (Lanz) starts a junior program at Leipzig Zoo. She is training the next generation of veterinarians, which, according to ARD, gives her the opportunity to “pass on her own competence, experience and responsibility – in dealing with animals and people alike.”
In addition, the zoo’s chief veterinarian has a new colleague in Dr. Matteo Berger (Tobias Licht, 46). The veterinarian is becoming a veterinarian at Leipzig Zoo, and the two of them are getting on really well professionally. Meanwhile, things are going well for Dr. Mertens in his private life. Mike Redmann (Matthias Komm, 58) and the vet have become a couple.
In addition to those already mentioned, Antonia Breidenbach (28), Madeleine de le Roi and Noel Okwanga (20) play veterinary students in the ninth season of “Tierärztin Dr. Mertens”. Ursela Monn (plays Charlotte Baumgart, 73), Gunter Schoß (Prof. Georg Baumgart, 83), Lennart Betzgen (Jonas Mertens, 28) and other familiar faces return from the series’ regular cast.
The 13 new episodes of “Veterinarian Dr. Mertens” are to be filmed in Leipzig and the surrounding area until the end of November. Broadcasting is planned for 2025.
