Vicarious Visions is now fully merged with Blizzard to become Blizzard Albany

In January 2021, we learned that Vicarious Visions was being absorbed by Blizzard. A merger that was mainly motivated by the development of Diablo II Resurrected, which the studio handled on behalf of the publisher. Since all this time, we thought that the merger was well established, but one step was missing, that of the death of the Vicarious Visions studio as such, to be renamed and fully integrated into the workforce of Blizzard.

A new branch opens at Blizzard

It was in a tweet that we could therefore see that Vicarious Visions was now completely absorbed by Blizzard, to become Blizzard Albany :

We have officially merged with Blizzard Entertainment. Our development team will remain in Albany (in New York) and entirely dedicated to Blizzard games. »

This therefore means that from now on, the team that we knew under the name of Vicarious Visions will no longer work on the side of Activision’s licenses, but rather those of Blizzard, although it is a one and the same group.

In addition to Diablo II Resurrectedthe studio had also worked on Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy. We are now waiting to see if this new name will allow the teams to work on something other than remasters or remakes.
