Vicat and Opinel have formalized the sale of a plot of the Vicat site located in Chambéry

(Boursier.com) — On October 17, Vicat, a French cement group, and Opinel, a knife manufacturer, have formalized the sale of a plot of land on the Vicat site located in Chambéry, La Reveriaz (73). This land of almost 2 hectares will allow Opinel to extend its Chambéry factory by 2025.

This sale is part of a global project to rehabilitate the Vicat sites in the Chambéry basin to revitalize these historic sites with various industrial and innovation projects.

A project in favor of the economic and industrial development of the territory

Thanks to this rehabilitation project, Vicat demonstrates its commitment to the sustainability and economic and industrial development of the territories. By supporting the development of Opinel on this historic site, Vicat is helping to maintain jobs and know-how in the Chambéry basin.

The Opinel site brings together the head office and the manufacturing workshops; it has benefited from multiple optimizations in recent years to support its commercial dynamism in France and internationally. The extension of the site onto a neighboring plot will allow the expansion of the workshops, the integration of new machines, a definite gain in efficiency and comfort. This project offers the Savoyard company the opportunity to calmly consider its future development while perpetuating its Chambéry roots.

Vicat will rehabilitate its Reveriaz and Montagnole sites, with the development of a multi-activity and multimodal project. Authorizations for renewal of exploitation of the Montagnole quarry were recently obtained. This quarry will supply the Chambéry basin, currently in deficit, with quality aggregates and will offer an offer for the recovery of local inert construction waste. Like the actions carried out on each Group site, these development projects will be developed within the framework of the Vicat biodiversity policy to defend and preserve the fauna and flora.

With the connection to the railway on site, this site will be a concrete illustration of the circular economy and short circuits. In line with the strategy undertaken in terms of decarbonization, the Group will continue to reduce the carbon footprint of its products/services and its constructive solutions in the heart of the territories.

Committed to the sustainability of industrial activities in the region, local authorities are mobilized alongside the Vicat and Opinel groups. At the invitation of Thierry Repentin, mayor of Chambéry and president of Grand Chambéry, a steering committee bringing together the Prefect of Savoie, representatives of the communities (City, Grand Chambéry, CGLE, Department of Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône Region -Alpes) and companies met at the beginning of October 2023 to monitor and support the smooth running of the project…
