Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden completed her first flag handover to the military in Gothenburg – in military uniform.

Victoria of Sweden (45) presented a new flag to the Älvsborg amphibious regiment on behalf of the king in Gothenburg on Friday. It was the Crown Princess’ first handover of the flag.

Traditionally, Victoria of Sweden wore a military uniform

She wore a classic green military uniform with a camouflage pattern, consisting of a functional jacket with zippers, matching trousers and black boots. She wore a dark blue beret on her head. The Swedish Royal tied her hair in a tight knot. The only jewelry she wore was a pair of small, golden hoops.

Flag as the main symbol

“Just under a year ago, on October 1st last year, I stood here and declared the Älvsborg amphibious regiment to be reopened. It is therefore a particular pleasure to be able to give the unit its new banner today,” said the Crown Princess in her speech while honoring the armed forces. They managed “a number of traditions that in and of themselves constituted an important part of Sweden’s cultural heritage,” she continued.

The main symbol of a regiment is its flag. Presenting the red and yellow flag, Victoria explained: “In the center two crossed fire-tubes under the king’s crown and above a flaming shell, as well as the ripples showing belonging to the ancient coastal artillery and the current amphibious corps.” The lion represents Gothenburg’s coat of arms.

In addition, the Swedish royal family shared on Instagram some impressions of the event. These show Victoria of Sweden during her speech and the subsequent handing over of the banner to Colonel Fredrik Herlitz. As part of the Garrison Day celebrations, the Crown Princess then met conscripts, employees and their families.
