VIDEO – 475 inhabitants, 12 births: the astonishing baby boom of a village in Sarthe in 2021

Liselle is the joy of her parents, like that of the entire town of Tresson, in the Sarthe. This two-month-old baby is one of twelve new births registered in 2021 in this village, which has 475 inhabitants according to figures from the last census.

Gladys Deshayes, Liselle’s mother, chose this place to provide a pleasant environment for her children. “I wanted to come back here precisely because I felt good there, she explains in the TF1 13H news report at the top of this article. It is the best living environment that we can offer to children “.

A few steps away, Laetitia and her husband have lived in Tresson for three years now and work nearby. They also welcomed the birth of a baby in October, Liam. For them, this “baby boom” in such a small village is an enigma. “We can’t explain it to ourselves. We were asking ourselves the same question. How did we make up our mind … suddenly a mystery, it will remain a mystery”, jokes Laëtitia Rozier.

Because in Tresson, no miraculous source, no magic potion. The municipal school has only four classes. On the other hand, around twenty families have recently settled down, attracted by life in the countryside. “It’s cheaper here, but mostly people who were already from the area or who have family in the area. We told them, Tresson, it’s not very, very expensive, and it’s nice. “, details Chantal Buin, the SE mayor of the village.

The inhabitants are in any case very happy with this wave of births. “I think it’s very good, as long as it gives life to the small towns”, assures a passerby. “Even for children, it makes it possible to be able to play among themselves, to see other children in the street”, adds another resident.

In one of the few shops in the village, Géraldine Vidal is also delighted. This former Parisian manages Tresson’s bar and grocery store. “It warms my heart because we tell ourselves that the future is mapped out and that it will last and be perpetuated again, we will maybe make thirteen next year”, she says jokingly. The challenge is on. In the meantime, to welcome the new children, the town hall will open a maternal assistance house and build a play area.
