VIDEO – David Hallyday: this lie from Johnny that he uncovered

Guest on the set of the show C to you, broadcast on France 5 Tuesday November 21, David Hallyday has discussed his autobiography, Best album, which comes out Thursday. The opportunity to say more about his journey in music and his links with his father Johnny. The journalist Patrick Cohen took the opportunity to question him about his memories, real and imaginary, taking the example of this anecdote dating back to when he was 6 years old. At that age, Sylvie Vartan’s son received a drum set as a gift, an instrument that he still owns.

Johnny Hallyday then decided to make him believe that when he was little, his first child had played the drums in front of Jimi Hendrix in person. As he grew up, the 57-year-old artist and musician quickly realized that this was all a lie, “unless there was a double”, of the star, he said with humor. “I looked, I did a little fact checking anyway”he affirmed, specifying that when his father had made this false confidence to him, he was “Super happy”. And David Hallyday had to face the facts when he learned, thanks to his research, that the famous American guitarist died when he was only 4 years old, and therefore he had not even received his instrument yet. An anecdote that makes him smile today.

Johnny Hallyday, a pathological liar?

Was the rocker who died in 2017 a mythomaniac? In any case, it was a confidence he made during his lifetime. and which we could see in the documentary series Johnny by Johnny, available on Netflix since March 2022. In an extract, we saw the singer questioned about his “main fault”. Without hesitation, the late husband of Laeticia Hallyday admitted to being “quite a liar”. “I need to believe in my lies to be able to make them dream, to make people believe [en] what I tell them”, he declared frankly. An excuse which in any case explains why he invented such a thing in front of his first child.
