VIDEO – Gabriel Attal “optimistic” on the Omicron wave: “The situation has stabilized”

Invited on the set of CNews, this Tuesday, January 18 morning, Gabriel Attal gave an update on the health crisis and on the Omicron wave, which seems to have decreased since the appearance of this variant in France.

This Tuesday, January 18, Gabriel Attal was a guest on CNews. Faced with Laurence Ferrari, the government spokesperson notably mentioned the evolution of the health crisis in France. “We are in a tense epidemic situation, with a virus that circulates a lot”, he launched, specifying that, “as everywhere in the world, the Omicron wave hit our country”. Asked about the drop in the number of contaminations, Stéphane Séjourné’s companion first stressed that he was “careful” on the subject and that he “always be based on what the scientists say”.

“It is not a political choice, or of the government, to say that the peak has arrived or that the situation is improving”, he said, based on recent statements by Professor Fontanet. “I think we have reason to be optimistic today. We see that the delta wave really regressed. We see that the traffic tends to slow down and that in the regions where the Omicron wave started first, particularly in Île-de-France, there is what seems to be the beginning of a decline”, chained Gabriel Attal, who is delighted that “in intensive care units, the situation [se soit] stabilized”. “Now, we obviously have to remain vigilant and continue our efforts”, however, added the government spokesman.

“We’re all fed up!”

When Laurence Ferrari asked him to speak about wearing a mask outdoors, the politician recalled that, in many places where there are people, it is “pragmatism and common sense”. “The French have been living with the virus for two years”, he underlined, cut by the journalist, indicating “that they are fed up”. Not enough to disconcert Gabriel Attal: “Yes, we’re all fed up and they know very well in which situations they take a risk vis-à-vis contamination, if they are too close to other people”, he replied.
