Fans can order personal messages from stars on video greeting platforms. This is how the celebrity portals work.

If you want to make your loved ones happy for their birthday, anniversary, Christmas or other occasion, you can order video messages from Stars. The international platforms “cameo” and “CelebVM” as well as the one aimed at the German market “memo” offer personalized greetings from national and international stars and starlets for a fee. How the portals work.

A video from the Memmo platform recently made headlines when moderator Jan Böhmermann (41) and musician Olli Schulz (48) recorded their podcast “Fest & Flauschig” live on stage at the IFA electronics fair in Berlin. Böhmermann had ordered a video message from It-Girl Laura Müller (22) for Schulz. In it she addressed encouraging words to Olli, whose friend Jan had told her that he was often in a bad mood. The video message ordered from Müller as a joke cost Böhmermann around 125 euros.

In addition to Laura Müller, there are other more or less well-known celebrities on the platforms. For example, video messages from entertainment celebrities such as Germany’s first “Bachelor” Paul Janke (41) or “Love Island” participant Henrik Stoltenberg (25) can be found on Memmo. Athletes also offer their services on the platform, such as Europe’s former footballer of the year Luís Figo (49), Germany’s 1990 football world champion Andreas Brehme (62) or England’s Wembley goal legend Sir Geoff Hurst (81).

Interested parties can choose between different options on the platform, such as congratulations on a birthday or wedding anniversary, encouraging words or making fun of someone. You can also order a joke from the celebrities as a video. You then choose whether the video is for someone else or for yourself and fill out detailed instructions on what exactly you want the star to see in the video.

How much do stars’ video messages cost

The prices of the videos vary from celebrity to celebrity – sometimes very strongly: A video by Janke or Stoltenberg is available from Memmo for the basic price of 49 euros, the comedy duo Erkan & Stefan and Luís Figo also fall into this price range. For example, if you want to book a message from Princess Maja von Hohenzollern (50), you can get it from 150 euros, videos by Hollywood actor Billy Dee Williams (85) cost around 300 euros.

There are also possible surcharges that are similar on the platforms, but can also differ significantly from star to star. Not all celebrities also unlock the same extra features. Surcharges are possible for the option of a longer video, exceeding the usual 60 to 90 seconds; a more detailed statement longer than the free 250 characters; a delivery within 24 hours; a video in full HD; or a video without the provider’s logo as a watermark.

Not all celebrities are always active, beware of fakes

Those interested in such video greetings should scroll through the list of stars and asterisks to choose a favourite. If this is found, however, it may be that it is not available. For example, Laura Müller or Roberto Blanco (85) are represented on Memmo, but are currently not taking any orders. Interested users get no further information than to try again later.

One should pay attention to the authenticity of the celebrities. While various A-list lookalikes, from Prince Harry, 38, to Tom Cruise, 60, identify themselves as such and offer doppelganger videos, copycats try their luck with false profiles. Last but not least, there is the option to order videos of deepfakes: From Arnold Schwarzenegger (75) to Joe Biden (79) to Sylvester Stallone (76), you can send deceptively real video greetings to yourself or others.
